I named her recent project Yellow Brick Journey one of my TOP ALBUMS OF 2009 and people were emailing, texting, and twittering me wanting to know more about her! The album is Bananas. Some of my favorite tracks are "Jump The Gun", "Little Girl New", "Disconnected", "Peace of Mind" just to name a few! What inspired you to become a singer? My mother was my biggest inspiration in becoming a singer. She's a vocalist as well - I watched and learned from her growing up in Seattle.
Who are some of you Favorite singers of all Time?of all time...that's a hard one -there's so many I've learned from and love! Let's see - a few are Tina Turner, Jimi Hendrix, Gladys Knight, the Clark Sisters, Erykah Badu, D'Angelo, the Doors and the list goes on and on...
Tell me a little about your childhood and how its played apart in your Music?Well, as I stated before I grew up learning from my mother. She was the piano player at the church we attended when I was younger. So, my sister and I came out of the womb exposed and experiencing music -specifically gospel and soul music. Those two music genres were dominate in my household. But I was born and raised in Seattle and Seattle is the city of the grunge movement and rock & roll. So, the music of my city also played a part in my development - you know Jimi Hendrix and Nirvana and such.
Your from Seattle, attended college in Atlanta and now reside in New York. All those places have different musically feels. How have they all added to your talent?Seattle was the place that I was born and is my foundation. I then moved to Atlanta and I blossomed there - I gained a confidence and really begin to except that music was where I wanted to be. Then when I relocated to New York I saw myself begin to evolve into the artist that I was to be! I became more passionate in my singing, delivery and performances..and I began to realize my sound.
Do you write your own songs? How important is that to you as an artist?Yes, I write all of my music. I like to sing things that I can directly relate to and that speak to me as a person and an artist - so me being apart of the writing process is very important.
