Vogue Cover has Turned into a Race Issue

People always find a reason to make things about race. So i guess we shouldn't be surprised that Lebron James being the first black man to grace the cover of Vogue, became and issue as well. Why are people finding a way to make his accomplishment an unnecessary controversy? Well some say the photo
perpetuates racial stereotypes.
What I dont understand is why people always feel the need to bring everything back to slavery, and what we dont realize is we continue to keep ourselves in slavery because we make big deal out of bull like this photo. This picture is nothing worth sitting around and making a big deal about. Be happy that he had an accomplishemnt. Everything aint deep, if THE MEDIA would have never said anything everyone would have been happy...thats what's so funny to me this is another case GET A LIFE People...

Just like I said on plushredsofa.blogspot.com I will repeat on here. You need to take two things in account:

1. He is the first black man to be on the cover and,

2.They made him portray the stereotype MAN who loves white women

I dont think there is anything wrong with you NOT being upset but I also don't think it's wrong with people WHO ARE upset. You have your opinion and we have ours.

But please note that most black people who "DON'T SEE WHATS WRONG WITH THE COVER" has free feet and a slave mind. Not saying that you are in that percentage.

BY the way....SLAVERY WAS NOT THAT LONG AGO and as a person who studied BLACK FILMS your opinion is suprising.

Here is what I wrote:

JUST THIS ONE TIME…I will have to DISAGREE with you. It may SEEM like its blown out of proportion but it pissed me off the first time I saw the cover as well and I saw the cover before all the controversy.

The Reason to My Madness:

Slavery in the U.S. ended 1863 – less then 200 years

Jim Crow Laws (Racial Segregation) ended 1965 - less then 50 years ago

Birth of a Nation, a movie made less the 100 years ago depicted a very racist image of black men as beasts/animals that lusted after pure and innocent white women.

I was PISSED when I saw that cover because rather we’re using a King Kong example or not a picture says a thousand words and that’s exactly what was being portrayed in that photograph.

Lebron James to me is probably ignorant to the fact that he looks like a modern day “Buck” or “Coon.”

I feel like ½ of the black population is upset because they still realize that the our parents were growing up threw the Jim Crow era (LESS THEN 50 YEARS AGO), while the other ½ think we’re free now, nobody think that way anymore, and people need to get over it but those same people have slave minds and free feet.. Remember U of M had an affirmative action issue n 2003 less then 10 years ago! So I feel like the ½ that is pissed about the magazine have every right to be… History said so!

As far as other athletes not being portrayed like that…GOOD FOR THEM.. that’s why we’re not talking about their cover.

By the way…. Will I have felt the same way if they had used Beyonce, Tyra or Naomi instead of Giselle…ABSOLUTELY NOT! Because they are not that pure and innocent white woman ALL BLACK MEN LUST AFTER!

If they would have put me on the cover none of this would have happened.

I agree Wallo, why didnt they call you?...Thanks Teia, and i do understand your comment. And if we would have had this discuss a few years ago i would've been "PANTHER" all the way as you know me.But when i saw racist i just had to laugh!!! Because i have opened my mind and not made everything so "Pro-Black" and "You-Owe me" i've seen different aspects of things not just the given or the expected. It was a photo taken and it may not have had much of a thought and then again it may have, no one knows. One thing I’ve been learning and trying to teach myself thanks to The Secret is “the life you live and the things you see are products of the life you created” If you are constantly looking through the glass for racism, your going to get it.I honestly don’t think that someone set out to make a racial point , Yes some could say that Vogue is racist for not ever having a black man on the cover but then again the REALness of the whole matter is Putting black people on covers don’t sell that is unless your selling to a black audience and sometimes it still doesn’t sell. People could careless about the picture; they see their past experiences and biases, which is natural… For Vogue to put him on the cover to me should be applauded. The picture really is just not a good picture. I think that you can find something racist or sexist in just about anything in our culture if you concentrate hard enough… Which again brings me to my whole point that Its Not That Deep... Somethings are meant to be taken at face value!! A PHOTO...

i do know where i come from however the knowledge that i have of my past allows me to see that the reason we are going in circle in all aspects of life is because of the way we think.
