PRESIDENT OBAMA’S HEALTH CARE SPEECH TO CONGRESS

President Barack Obama urged Congress to enact sweeping health care legislation on Wednesday night. According to the President, “The change is in order to protect millions of Americans who have unreliable insurance or none at all would cost about $900 billion over a decade,” less than we have spent on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, and less than the tax cuts for the wealthiest few Americans” passed during the Bush administration. In favor of an option for the government to sell insurance in competition with private industry, the President also said he was open to alternatives that offered choices for consumers.

Now i'm not a political person at all. However the thing that gets me is how and why does the GOP continue to use people like; Rep. Charles Boustany to speak on their behalf. Yet he's been sued for malpractice THREE times & Louisiana has the worst health & economic indexes of any state yet GOP continue to run responses from there. Not to mention, i felt like he was running for something. What else is also interesting to me is the lack of class on the Republicans side and the loyalty to their interest, more so than their citizens.
During the speech, Republicans laughed, House members were seen text messaging and South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson yelled, “You lie!” (he later issued an apology) when the President said legislation would not include insurance coverage for illegal immigrants. First Lady Michelle Obama shook her head from the visitor’s gallery. Whats even more interesting to me is, Republican party members were holding up 4 page insurance plans. A plan that they said is better, Yet, their repeating EXACTLY what Obama is saying, just in a different way. Honestly, i think they want to be the ones to take the credit and i need my plan to be more than 4 pages (Im just saying) Not only that but, Republicans also want Malpractice Laws to break the deal. Which is sad that a lot of politicians are so adamant about defending their interests before the people of this country. Yet again.

I'm not trying to make anyone for a side, though i think people should when issues like this are considered. Its just astonishing to me how many people fought against President Obama's speech to the kids about education. Especially since; Test scores are at their lowest, Dropouts rates are at a high, kids get killed in school and more kids under 15 get pregnant everyday (mentioned to me by a friend, BKD). But then again its not, because the mere fact that a lot of people (not just politicians) have not educated themselves enough on the President's plan is also astonishing. Many are starting to realize, that this may beyond politics.

With all that said, The Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus told Democratic colleagues Wednesday morning that he will push ahead with legislation next week — with or without Republican support — and that members of the Finance Committee should prepare for a vote on the bill within the next two weeks.
