22-Year-Old Myya D. Jones is Running For Mayor of her hometown Detroit

22-year-old Michigan State University senior Myya D. Jones, announced her candidacy for mayor earlier this month. Myaa who is a native of Detroit says that whether or not she wins the election, she hopes her experiences running will help other young people get engaged in the political process.

 Jones recently told Huffington Post; “I want people to be able to walk down the street and go to the park. I want to clean up our streets and make sure we have block clubs and neighborhood clubs. I want to make sure people feel a responsibility to their neighborhood. Right now those things aren’t happening,” she stressed to the newspaper. “We can’t forget about the people who have to live in Detroit. We need to create more opportunities for people to have jobs, for them to be financially literate,” Jones added.
